What’s it like to work with your graphic designers?
It’s awesome. Our designers are a great group of people who love design. While we take our jobs seriously, we do not take ourselves too seriously. That allows the creative process to flourish. Having fun and doing great work is how we make sure you enjoy working with us. We’re not about egos and judgment; we bring the same level of attention, professionalism, and care to the simple jobs and as we do to the glory jobs. The goal for all projects is the same – making you look good.
Who are some of your clients?
We love variety. We work with big name, national and international clients, as well as medium-sized operations looking to grow. A few names from our long list of clients include; Dole, Sanyo, Philips, Xerox, Kodak, Carestream, Magnavox, Target, CooperVision, Walmart, Fisher-Price and Hasbro.
What programs do you utilize?
We use Adobe Creative Suite (primarily Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop).
Do you require upfront payment and have clear payment terms?
You bet. To start any project, we require a deposit of 50%. The remaining 50% is invoiced when the project is completed. In special cases we might allow for a different payment plan if it suits both parties.
How long will it take to complete my project, and will you meet that deadline?
Success is about clearly setting and then meeting expectations. We will discuss the time requirements once we understand the scope of the project. A delivery date will be provided with your estimate and your project will be done in the timeframe we bid.
Can you guarantee that you’ll deliver my job on time and on budget?Absolutely, as long as you deliver feedback on schedule. We’ll outline the timeline and expectations in our proposal (e.g. one point person for feedback, up to 3 rounds of revisions, etc.). Overages may only occur when these expectations aren’t met. Should that happen, we will notify you upfront of what is going on, and not just add it to your final invoice later.
What will you charge me per hour?
We don’t charge by the hour. And that’s a good thing. As a full-service graphic design firm, we collaborate with you on your needs and objectives to co-create solutions that start with concept and go all the way through to production. As a nimble firm, we can either take the whole thing off your plate, or work with your in-house team or agency of record. We charge by the project, based upon the value we deliver. Why is this awesome for you? You know exactly what budget you need to assign; you know exactly what you will get and when; and you have the confidence it will come in on target, on time, and on budget.
I know exactly what I want, can I get a discount?
Our prices are dependent on the amount of work it will take to complete your job. Often a client idea is significantly modified before it can be made to work in the necessary formats, and we end up designing nearly from scratch. Knowing what you want is great, but you’re hiring us because we’re the design experts. You will have plenty of say in the final product and we guarantee that you will be thrilled with the finished products.
Do you do spec work?
Nope. We are a small operation. You benefit by only paying for top notch design, not the overhead of excess staff. While we don’t have big agency’s padded budgets to do spec work, we are more than happy to do a paid pitch. If you like the work and move forward with us, the pitch payment will be applied to your project fee.
What if I don’t like it?
Our project questionnaire helps us determine the design path we follow, so we don’t often miss the mark. If we do miss, we’ll make it right for you.
What’s the difference between a logo and a brand identity?
We know, they’re used interchangeably, but they are not the same. Your logo is the mark that visually identifies your brand. It can be a graphic image, the typographical representation of the brand, or a combination of both.
Your brand identity is a broader concept that encompasses all the visual elements that make up the look and feel of your brand. It includes the logo, color palette, fonts, image style, layouts and any other graphic elements supporting the brand, including business cards, packaging, etc. All these elements are outlined in your brand style guide.
I need something designed yesterday. Can you help me?
We’ll certainly try. It happens. You have a lot on you plate and something got overlooked. We can usually accommodate your rush job, but a rush fee may be added. If you are in a jam, we do our best to help you.
Do I have the rights to my files once the project is completed?
We do not hold hostages. As the purchaser, you will have exclusive, unlimited use and reproduction license on the designs we create for you. You own your designs, and you can do whatever you would like to do with the files.
As is industry standard, we retain our designs and reserve the right to use them in our portfolios. We believe in making every piece portfolio worthy and would love to include your project.
What are the steps in the creative process at D&R
Before we start designing, we gather as much information as possible to pinpoint the problem we’re solving and determine your goals. We will discuss your needs, ideas, and target market. We then ask for samples of your likes or dislikes to get an idea of your tastes. You may already have a design concept in mind, or you may have no idea of what you want. Either way, we make sure we have collected enough information before we begin work.
We will brainstorm ideas, sketch out concepts and start turning this information into compelling visuals. In a collaborative process, our team internally critiques the initial designs and completes refinements before submitting concepts.
What is my involvement in the design process?
We will listen to you from the start and encourage you to share samples, color combinations / swatches, and ideas you may have to help us get an idea of your style preferences. During the design process, you may be asked to approve certain colors and fonts choices. For print projects we will submit a final proof for the approval before submitting to production. Once a job is in print production, it cannot be cancelled. At the conclusion of a project, you can request the artwork in various formats once payment is made for design services.
How many design options will I get?
Typically, we will provide 2-3 design concepts. Based on your feedback, we may incorporate aspects of each design and refine as we home in on the best solution. Three rounds of revisions are included in your project estimate.
What’s the difference between a ’round of revisions’ and a ‘design concept’?
Each concept is an entirely different design or visual direction. We will start by presenting you with 2-3 concepts, and once you select a concept, you have up to 3 revision rounds to refine the design. It is not uncommon to select a type style from one concept, and color combinations from the other concept, to arrive at the final design. Our clients typically don’t require all 3 revision rounds.
What is included in a round of revisions?
Each round of revisions refers to you providing feedback…it doesn’t matter if you give us 1 or 20 points of feedback. We address your feedback and present the revised concept back to you. Just like baseball, there are 3 at-bats to get home. Most of our clients don’t use them all up, but they are there in case you need them.
How do I check on the progress of my project during design process?Once your deposit is received, we will begin working on your project. You will have already received a project timeline along with your estimate. We will adhere to our part of the timeline, and if you follow-up in a timely manner on your end, your project will be completed in the agreed-upon timeframe.
What happens to my design project once it is finished?
Once completed we will supply the electronic files to you or your printer. As a fail-safe, we archive all projects for later updates.
Do I get a vector file for my logo once created?
YES. You get eps (vector), jpeg, and png files.
